Pentecost events in Vienna

A diverse programme in the flower-filled Austrian capital

When the Augarten, the Green Prater and the area in front of Schönbrunn Palace are all a mass of colourful blooms, you know that spring has come to Vienna. The abundant peonies, known to locals as “Whitsun roses”, symbolise the festival of Pentecost and the gradual transition from cool spring to warmer summer. Vienna has plenty to offer in the season of Pentecost. It is the perfect time to spend a couple of days on holiday in the Austrian metropolis with your partner, family or friends!

Event highlight: Wiener Festwochen cultural festival

Numerous theatre performances, operas and dance presentations are displayed in the city’s famous theatre houses; at the opening festival on Vienna’s Town Hall Square, in the MuseumsQuartier, in the Theater an der Wien and at the Playhouse. Be inspired by outstanding acts in Vienna, from 15 May to 21 June 2020!

Austrian art and culture during Beethoven Anniversary Year 2020

Culture fans can enjoy sophisticated culture during the Wiener Festwochen, along with the added bonus of a diverse range of events marking Beethoven Anniversary Year 2020 celebrations. In the Leopold Museum, you can see the art of Josef Maria Auchentaller, who was inspired by Beethoven’s Pastorale. Concerts by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and the Vienna Symphony Orchestra enable you to experience Beethoven’s compositions in their original form.
