The marathon hotel for runners & spectators

It’s the taking part that counts – in the Vienna City Marathon!

The marathon is undoubtedly considered to be the ultimate discipline among running distances. This kind of mega running event can meanwhile be found on the events calendar of every self-respecting major city. As a result, Vienna joins the ranks of first-class venues such as New York, Berlin and Paris. The starting signal for the Vienna City Marathon is sounded every year in spring as the sun slowly but surely gets stronger. Then The Harmonie Vienna warmly welcomes runners and spectators!

The marathon route: 42 km lined with sights

The marathon starts at Vienna International Center – between the UNO city’s skyscrapers. It continues past Vienna’s most beautiful sights: first the runners cross the Reichsbrücke. Then the route leads right through the Wiener Prater and past the world famous big wheel of course. It carries on along Vienna’s Ringstraße past the stunning magnificent buildings out to Schönbrunn Palace and back to the ring road and Prater again. Then the participants run along the ultimate shopping street – Mariahilfer Straße. Impressive grand buildings and churches, museums, the University of Vienna and parliament line the route. The Ringstraße is the home straight for one of the most “cultural” marathons in the world. The athletes cross the finish line after 42.195 kilometres right in front of the Burgtheater.

A whole load of events surround the Vienna City Marathon!

There’s already a great deal going on the day before the main event: from the children’s and youth competitions to the 10 km run. Besides the classic marathon, there’s also a half marathon and relay marathon for teams of 4 as part of the main event on Sunday. In addition, numerous side events provide a suitable setting for the marathon: the popular VCM Carb Loading Party is held in Vienna town hall’s ballroom the evening before the running event. Pasta and “Kaiserschmarrn” are of course fittingly served – but not just to the runners… Full-blooded runners and amateur runners, who might turn into marathon participants yet, can find out about the latest running trends at the VCM “Vienna Sports World” expo at Marx Halle.
