Spend a holiday in the Serviten Quarter -
The heart of Alsergrund in Vienna

The Serviten Quarter around The Harmonie Vienna is only a few minutes away from the Ringstraße. Despite its closeness to the city center the area seems like a different world far off the beaten tourist track. There is no other district where one can meet so many students and academics and so many retirees at the same time. This makes for a very interesting mixture of bourgeois and trendy lifestyle.

Named after a catholic fraternity, the Serviten Quarter is the centerpiece of the Alsergrund, which Vienna’s 9th district. Around the Serviten church you will find small boutiques, bars, cafés and delis. They create an original and at the same time relaxed atmosphere and invite you to relax and enjoy your holiday to the full.

A sight for cultural insiders right next to the hotel is the Strudelhofstiege. Built in Viennese art nouveau architecture it became famous through the novel of the same title written by the Austrian author Heimito von Doderer (1951). Also right next to the hotel you will find the Palais Liechtenstein which was the first important building of the high baroque age. It is owned by the princely family of Liechtenstein and can only be visited with a guided tour. Other sights close to the hotel are the Votive Church, the Volksoper Vienna, the University, the Rossauer Kaserne and the Vienna Stock Exchange (Wiener Börse).

It is probably Vienna's most famous address close to the Harmonie Vienna: Sigmund Freud lived for 47 years at Berggasse 19. The  former apartment and practice of Sigmund Freud are now furnished as a museum.

Theatre & Opera

The Schauspielhaus in Porzellangasse is a small theater which shows modern plays, some of them in English. The Burgtheater can be reached with the D tram in 10 minutes, the Opera house in 15 minutes.

The Volksoper offers an incredible array of stagecraft: operas, classical musicals, contemporary dance and concerts as well as operettas – with 300 performances in the season.

The Burgtheater, originally known as the K. K. Hoftheater next to the Burg  is one of Europe’s largest theatres and plays a seminal role in the German-speaking theatrical world.

Business & Embassies

The 9th district is a business district where you will find numerous banks, the American and Swedish embassy, the French cultural institute, the General Hospital (AKH) and the University clinic.
