A shopping trip in Vienna is an absolute pleasure. There’s something here to suit all tastes and budgets.
Kärntner Straße and Mariahilferstraße
Anyone who is looking for exclusive shopping fun with designer goods, is in just the right place in the area where Kohlmarkt – Graben – Kärntner Straße meet. These famous Viennese shopping streets can be reached on foot or using the D-Tram from The Harmonie Vienna.
Mariahilferstraße in the 7th district is Vienna’s longest shopping street. From The Harmonie Vienna it’s best to take the U2 to Museumsquartier station.
In the side streets off Mariahilferstraße in the 7th district you can find little designer shops with unusual, creative and handmade treats. The designer shops formed the 7tm initiative together.
Spittelberg artists’ district
Vienna’s former red light district, Spittelberg, is also near Mariahilferstraße. You can find small galleries there and one of the most charming Christmas markets during Advent.
Naschmarkt at the U4 Kettenbrückengasse station is ideal for food shopping. A flea market is held there every weekend. Even if you don’t want to buy anything, you still should not give the Naschmarkt a miss. The colourful hustle and bustle and many lovely shops are highly recommended.
Goldenes Quartier and Tuchlauben
The Tuchlauben were arcades at ground level that were among Vienna’s most exclusive areas. They got their name from the cloth merchants and tailors based there, which was a wealthy guild trade back then. The exclusivity has been preserved in the shops based there today: designer brands’ flagship stores, such as Louis Vuitton, Bottega Veneta and Jimmy Choo, turn it into a luxurious street for shopping and strolling. It is part of the Goldenes Quartier, which also includes Bognergasse and Am Hof as well as the Tuchlauben. The elegant Kohlmarkt is right next door.
